(NOT A Chapter) Topic about Ads

I wish this was April Fools, but it’s not.
Hello to all my readers, it’s been a really long time since I’ve done such off-topic posts. Well, the topic that I’m going to be discussing would be mainly on Ads, as you can see from the title of the post. So, if you’re not interested then you can click away and resume on your daily dose of webnovels, if you are, then feel free to read further into it.
<Warning, Shiro is really triggered>
So, as you all have known by now, I’ve been doing this as a hobby for over a year now, and of course, I have monetized my site with the help of WordPress’s Business Plan. This way, I would at least be able to earn some extra pocket money from doing translations. The monthly donations from Patron and also Paypal helped a lot for me as a huge support to continue on the translations. I’m truly grateful and seriously, they are half of the reason why I’m so hyped at translating most of the time, besides getting a new project to translate(cut&paste). Then, why am I talking about this? Let’s make it brief(not really).
Recently, I found out, and most probably some of you might as well, that Ads have not been appearing lately. I knew later, after contacting customer support and going back and forth with them for awhile, that I had broken one of their Terms and Conditions under “non human-traffic”. Okay, first off, I have never even used bot click to boost my website before since the beginning of this website. Well, unless everyone here are robots, then that’s a whole other issue we have to talk about, but for the most part, everyone here was mainly from NU and are just enjoying their leisure reading. I mean I don’t really get much to begin with as WordAds doesn’t really pay that much, but that’s besides the point.
Okay just to clear up some stuff, Yes I do this for fun, and to also improve my language, but earning some extra cash isn’t wrong? I mean if I’m running a website, at least getting something beneficial would be great as well. Doing it for the fans is really pleasant but I’m not always free, and dedicating myself in translating at a weekly basis takes time, especially when I have college to juggle with. Well, the only great thing about it is that the Ads don’t really bother my readers(hopefully), as it is just a banner.
So I was like, okay fine so be it, I violate something that I never done, and apparently it’s called “sabotaging” a website, I was careless, it was a mistake from my part, so how can I re-apply for WordAds? Turns out, you can’t, once the higher-ups stopped bidding you, that’s the end for your website, toddles! Oh okay, that’s fair I suppose? Though, the support team was nice enough to suggest me ideas of getting into Google Adsense, my eyes lit as I could see a small hint of hope for myself.
Just a few minutes later, my response: “can it be any worse?” Well, turns out, this website is not available for Adsense. Again, I went around digging what could be the reason. Turns out, it could be anything! Best part? They won’t specify it….again! Nice! At this point, I was just exhausted, all of this really demotivates me to an extent. The roll-out for March, they ain’t giving to me cause I was pulled out from it. I don’t mind, but still, it sucks to not get money that you work hard for.
It is now 5:48a.m, GMT 8, basically it’s morning, I haven’t slept, I’m tired but I really want this to be sorted out at least. After doing more research and trial and errors, I found one website called Propeller ads. To loosely describe it, it’s basically ads that would pop up when you click, and would show up from below when you’re on your mobile. (I basically signed up for a new ad company, but a little afraid to disclose it for now, so I’ll not say the name yet until I have permission to say so.) Oh no! How could you translator-san! I know, I’m despicable, aren’t I? Well, if it really pains you to see ads popping out or seeing it on mobile, I could turn off the pop up ads for computer, but for mobile, if people start complaining, I’ll turn that off too.
Okay, I’m done ranting, I have absolutely no idea what I typed, I can’t think straight, this is starting to get on my nerves. I’m gonna go and sleep, expect new chapters probably tomorrow? I’m not sure, I had a long day. Presentation is tomorrow, I’m going for outstation this coming Thursday, coming back on Sunday.
TL;DR: Translator is being sabotaged and is having lots of problems with ads.
Thank you so much to all my patron supporters who have been helping me since the beginning, and to those who are helping me right now as well.

I guess they found out that I’m not a human…jk I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t mind about the ads
Shiro · 4th April 2018 at 6:16 AM
Thanks 🙂 still experimenting on it, hopefully it won’t cause more problems… There’s more than what I wrote, but I’m just too tired to explain so I’m omitting them for now, maybe if people wanted more context I might add that.

Wow, i dont know much on how to keep a website running, but don’t give up. Thankz for your hard work. I’m sure most of us don’t mind the ads. For those who complain, well….
spare · 6th April 2018 at 4:19 AM
I don’t think it’s so much the adds they complain about as the “type” of ads. Ones that play without you interacting with them, play with sound without you choosing, constantly get in your face or redirect you. The main gripe about the ones that play without you is them slowing the machine or driving nuts in hidden tabs other type should be obvious. Personally ads don’t really bother me since use a strong adblock normally and add to whitelist when find ones worth supporting (atleast as long as the redirect adds aren’t in effect)

Thank you for all the hard work Shiro! It will work out for sure!

Get all the ads, I BELIEVE IN YOU! I wonder if you could get like a button that could play ads so we could click on it to support you as well.

Those bots they speak off are the bots of those thieving aggregator sites who would scrap your content to be posted on their site. Many says aggregator won’t hurt the translators, in fact it will make the novel more known…. Fuck that, now it is clearly seen that their bots are the main reason that the translator’s ads are all getting torn down in pieces. rant over
Now may I suggest you using ad links? tmearn.com is a good choice as it has a very good payout for just a few view. It’s not a scam site as I already tested it and also some other translators also. Here’s my refferal btw. https://tmearn.com/ref/Futaba
Shiro · 4th April 2018 at 10:35 AM
Oh my gosh, thank you for recommending a good adlink for me to use, I’ve been so down by this case happening and tbh, I rather trust someone who has worked on this before and experienced things I’ve never. So yeah, I finally understand why this happens, aggregator, I’ve seen it before but I did not know that was the main cause, if I knew about it, I would’ve done something long ago to prevent this from happening. So yeah, I’ll try the tmearn you’re currently using, let’s see how it goes
Thank you so much!

NO problem, glad that I can be of help. If you like you can also join us in NU forum on using ways to combat aggregators, look for measures-for-avoiding-translations-being-stolen thread.

A suggestion to add on to that is if you use ad links when posting put one link that leads right to the chapter and another that relays through ads before going to the chapter that way there isn’t a need for adblock when the ads screw you with the annoying ones. Also I don’t know how it’s done or what effects it has but for the bots if it’s ones stealing the tl could try a “copy blocker?” I remember it from when was reading Arifureta on Japtem if you tried to highlight stuff or right click it wouldn’t work again, i’m not sure what kind of other effects it has (plus it’s kind of annoying when you highlight to keep track of where you are) but it might be a option.

🙁 I am sorry you have to deal with this bullshit. You do great work!
MrTrixer · 4th April 2018 at 4:37 PM
FINALLY, Please keep these ads in moderation, i cant even comment or click a link before i get spammed by ads and on mobile its even worse, i cant read anything since the website thinks that im clicking on it when i just want to scroll down to read the next part.
Its really annoying to read 2-3 lines then have to close 4-5 ad-pages that opened up and want me to install weird softwares all the time. :/
I do understand your concerns but for me this is a nightmare, is there really no other way to do this? My anti-virus program is going crazy on me as well so if worst come i have to stop reading from this site and give up on the novels you translate (sob..) My phone and computer are a necessity for me to get my fixes, i just love reading novels online. ^^
I hope you manage to find a way that works for everyone but at this rate wont those bots Rusaku mentioned start destroying your ad-system again? They really pops up non-stop.
I hope i will at least be able to comment properly in the future, i had to refresh this page 13 times before the comment section finally reacted instead of opening ads for me. ^^”
MrTrixer · 4th April 2018 at 4:55 PM
I found a way to start commenting and read the chapters on my computer now but unfortunately its one of the strongest Adblock i could find, sorry Shiro. 🙁
I hope it works out for you in the end, good luck.
Shiro · 4th April 2018 at 4:58 PM
Hey it’s alright, I’ll disable it once I get home, I understand…I was just tired and didn’t know what else I could do. I’ll try to figure out something else. Stay tuned
Shiro · 4th April 2018 at 5:04 PM
I turned it off…using mobile…so hopefully it’s alright now
MrTrixer · 9th April 2018 at 5:43 AM
Much better now, im sorry it didnt work as well as it should have.
Did you manage to work around the adlink? that could be a good way for us readers to offer support. 🙂
Falneu · 4th April 2018 at 4:55 PM
As long as they aren’t obtrusive like I have seen on rtd recently (read a para then suddenly get forwarded to another website (not a new window) ) then I have no problem with this and I hope for the best you can get.

Little bit out of topics here
Because my latest isekai reading spree lately when i see “non human-traffic”, elf and girls with animal ears pops into my head. Maybe i stop for now…
Ske-kun · 6th April 2018 at 6:12 AM
At first i thought what if aggregator sites steals your work its not like the readers would just leave and purposely read on the thief’s site. But here we found they do more harm than we expected.
Do your best we dont mind some few ads
