Since today is a really special day for me and I’m really happy, so I decided to stop playing Nier Automata my assignments for awhile and try publishing 2 chapters for today~ hopefully ><

In the morning, before heading into Nihonium, I went ahead and check my status from the Know-It-All board near the entrance of the dungeon.

Level 1/1
Strength S
Endurance F
Intelligence F
Mentality F
Speed C
Dexterity F
Luck F

As per usual, my level stayed the same, the only one that increased were the one that I leveled up using the seeds that dropped on this dungeon. Since the balance of my status was horrible, there’s still a long journey ahead of me. Thus, I wanted to clear Nihonium’s dungeon all the way to the ninth floor and get all my stats to S eventually, as I helplessly thought and awaited for that day to come.

So even though the balance is horrible as of now, but if I think of this as a means to nurture myself to get even stronger, then it would be way more fun that way.

Now that I think about it, even in games where you befriend/tame a monster, the maximum status that monster can go would still be far lower than your average player, thus in order to further increase their levels, one must have an item or some other stuff to increase their status further.

Thus, I thought of the thing that I have that helped me.

I turned the status to page two, and looked at the status displayed.

Vegetation S
Animal S
Mineral S
Magic S
Special Item S

What reflected on the display is the item drop stats.

They are all S from the stats, nothing’s changed from before.

After confirming my status, I’ve gotten back my mood and dived right into the dungeon.

First is to the second floor.

Usually, one might think of going to the third floor first to gather the Speed Up seeds, but in order to be efficient on the third floor, I must first get the Flame Bullets that are dropped by the rogue monsters of the second floor. Hence why I’m heading to the second floor first.

By using the Collection Box, I dealt a headshot to those zombies that I encountered, and used the box to collect the seeds.

By the way, though the undead monsters in Nihonium dungeon love to do surprise attacks, I did not receive any damage today by them.

It’s probably thanks to my Speed being increased to C, even though they suddenly appeared from the cracks of the walls, I’m able to dodge them and land on a safe distance, and calmly shoot them.

As always, I was able to experience the feeling of my skills increasing when going through a real battle.

Thus, after gathering enough Flame Bullets, I head down to the third floor and work my way in defeating the weak to flames mummy.

Before noon arrived, I managed to increase my Speed to B.

For some reason, I don’t have the motivation on working anymore during the afternoon.

Since the weather is good, what’s more the town isn’t that crowded, I really want to take my time off for the rest of the day.

Having to head to Teruru’s fourth floor and defeat some Bat Slimes to get some Bamboo Shoots, and head down to the fifth floor and defeat one Snake Slime and suck up the watermelon using the Pandora Box.

And finish the day by delivering the minimum requirement to people with whom I have a relationship. Was what I thought when.

[Ryouta-san, you’ve ever been down to Teruru until fifth floor only, right??]

After delivering the Bamboo Shoots, and confirming the cash I received.

Elza asked me faint-heartedly.

[I have though?]

[Then how about the other dungeons? How far have you dove for the other dungeons?]

[The rest? For Teruru it’s until the fifth floor, for Nihonium it’s the third floor, for Silicon it’s also the third floor to save someone and for Arsenic it’s only the first floor——Ah right, I once went into the tenth to save someone.]

[Right, I see…..]

[What’s the matter?]

[Then, you haven’t gotten your permit yet, right?]

As I was wondering what’s that, I looked back at Elza for answers.

Since I’m still new to this world and there are still many things I do not know of.

[You don’t know? Anyone who wants to dive in any dungeon in Shikuro further pass the fifth dungeon, they need to have a permit.]

[Is it something like a Permit Certificate? If I don’t have that, it’s bad?]

[Yes. Even though the dungeons in this world are generally for everyone to enter, but any dungeon after the fifth floor, the difficulty will spike up. Thus, any city who have dungeons must hold onto this policy. Since Shikuro is rather simple, you will need permission in order to go pass the fifth floor.]

[How about the other cities?]

[Some cities have rules that if adventurers do not have their permit, they wouldn’t be able to do trades, or if they are hurt when diving in the dungeon, the medical fees would triple, there are many more policies too.]

[I understand now. It’s better to have something to govern then having nothing at all.] (TLN: I’m not sure what he mean by that though.?????????????)

This is rather interesting.

Since this world is a world where [All products are dropped from monsters in the dungeon], they are some interesting rules for diving into dungeons.

I then recall back when I was checking on my status during the morning.

Since my Drop Rate is all S, I want to venture into other cities instead of the Agricultural city of Shikuro.

[So then……I’m asking you.]

While thinking about the various other cities, Elza brought me back to reality.

Again she timidly asked me in a somewhat apologetic attitude.

[If Ryouta-san doesn’t have it yet, I kinda want you to obtain it. Um, well, if regulars who have permit are numerous then the store would also rank up.]

[Aah, I get it.]

I somehow understood what she’s trying to say.

The permit becomes somewhat of a parameter in determining the strength of someone.

Since it’s not affiliated with the adventurers, but to business owners, they seem to want to have them by their side.

What that means is if they are more adventurers having the permit, then the impression of the shop would increase.

Elza had her head downcast while looking at me.

It seems that she has an expression of feeling sorry for asking such thing.

Well, since I’ve been helped by Elza a lot when coming to this store.

[I got it, if there’s anything I need to do please teach me.]

After understanding the conversation, I answered back to her with only two sentence agreeing.

Receiving a map from Elza, I finally arrived at Shikuro’s government office.

I went into the fabulous building that has various vegetable shapes, and following her explanation, I went down a floor.

What was there was a wide area of space.

Somehow, it reminded me of a shooting range when I went to Hawaii a long time ago.

There’s only one counter, and there’s a middle-aged man sitting behind the counter.

The guy listlessly spoke to me.

[…..What do you want.]

[Etto, I came here because I want to get a permit to dive further down into the sixth floor.]

[…….What are your achievements?]

[I’m able to deliver watermelons at Teruru’s fifth floor.]

Following what Elza taught me to say, the listless guy finally stood up.

[….I’ll test you.]

[The test is…..If you can defeat a monster below the fifth floor then you pass.]

[That’s rather simple.]

[……Since it’s easy to gauge whether you have the necessary strength to get pass the fifth floor.]

[That’s true.]

The monsters in the dungeon that drops item, are items that are used as products for this world.

The aim of diving into the dungeon for this world isn’t like in a game where you finish the first floor and are required to defeat a boss, what’s important in this world is about diving in everyday, and secure back the products

Thus simple is best, if you can prove that you can defeat the monster, then obviously you won’t have a problem in actually diving further.

[I understand, so I just have to dive into the sixth floor of Teruru dungeon and defeat a monster?]

[…..No, over here is fine.]

While being perplexed, the guy already went ahead and prepare the necessary.

In the middle of the huge space, a melon was placed there.

…..I kinda know what’s gonna happen.

The guy returned, and waited at a reasonable distance away from the melon.

The melon then transform into a rogue monster.

The slime has a sort of metallic colour on it.

[Lemme guess, is it a…..Metal Slime?]

[…..It’s a Steel Slime, it’s tough to even negate a knife.]

[I just have to defeat that right?]

[I got it.]

Leaving the guy, i moved forward.

The Steel Slime then jumped around.

It feels like there’s no hostility, even after noticing me it didn’t come and attack me.

Though I don’t know why, I first tried hitting it.

Even though the Steel Slime was sent flying away——but it seems to not have taken any damage.

It’s tough, even with my Strength being S, there’s hardly any damage at all.

Well, since it was called [Metal Slime] I kinda expected it to be that tough.

Then, it’s time to get serious.

I took out my gun, and loaded two bullets.

I then fired at the Steel Slime that is hopping around.

I fired at it in different intervals.

A magic formation appeared, and first a huge flame was emitted, then afterwards the place around it was frozen up.

I slowly approach it, and lightly jab it.

The Steel Slime shattered into pieces.

By the way a bullet was dropped, but before the guy could see I quickly pick it up and store it away.

[….What was that just now?]

Though his expression never changed, he sounded shocked.

[It’s called Thermal Shock. It occurs when something is instantly heated up and cooled down, and a material is subjected to these conditions, will be weakened, even if it’s Steel.]

(TLN: I don’t know why in the novel the translated meaning is fatigue fracture….though the thing that he is describing is thermal shock. Thank you Engineer Joe for explaining it to me)

[…..I just learn something amazing.]

The guy was seriously impressed.

Even though it’s something common, but do they not know about it?

Well, it’s fine.

After safely obtaining the permit, I can finally dive into all of Shikuro’s dungeon up until the 10th floor, then I would have to get another permit again.

After leaving the office, I sigh in relief.

Freeze Bullet and Flame bullet, and also fatigue fracture.

I really really want another gun, as I helplessly thought. (TLN: Plox help plot armor!!!!)

P.S To those who got the meaning, props to you and thank you~ :3

“I really really want another gun, as I helplessly thought.”
is this a flag?
i’m going to hope it’s an Mg or a sniper

    blackhawkrider · 14th May 2017 at 5:51 AM

machine gun is one thing but what use does a sniper have in a dungeon?

      Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:23 AM

To….uhh…spy on people? ? I guess having a sniper rifle increases the fire power?

        blackhawkrider · 16th May 2017 at 11:51 AM

but the recoil…i guess wouldn’t matter with his specs….but it is still not practical to use a sniper in a small dungeon. Also, it is a one vs many situation (for the mc) so it will make it even more difficult to fight.

      Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:24 AM

Sorry for double replying but it just got to me…maybe it’s similar to arifureta where the MC uses a modified sniper rifle to damage certain boss like enemies…

        blackhawkrider · 16th May 2017 at 11:52 AM

oh…….i didn’t think of that…….but does Hajime’s rail gun sniper have any recoil?

          Shiro · 16th May 2017 at 12:54 PM

.because he uses magic bullet which cancel the recoil XD

      XenoRaku · 15th May 2017 at 12:00 AM

        blackhawkrider · 16th May 2017 at 11:53 AM

so basically who gives a dam about using a sniper in a dungeon. ROMANCE!!!!

        Reminds me of Arifureta lol.

      Lime · 23rd July 2017 at 7:31 PM

Why choose one when you can have them both!

iamviruz · 14th May 2017 at 2:06 AM

And a gun will drop in the near future

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 2:16 AM

twas is plot convenience :3 thanks for reading~

Shiba Tatsuya · 14th May 2017 at 2:34 AM

Thanks for the chapter ^_^
I like the flags xD

Mesmerised · 14th May 2017 at 2:37 AM

Thanks for the chapter!

sfcipher · 14th May 2017 at 2:50 AM

So his next objective is going to get another gun…..
Thanks for the chapter.

zomthemonk · 14th May 2017 at 3:16 AM

Thanks for the chapter. Oh golly he decided to go full chuuni, and go for dual pistols/revolvers.

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:11 AM

Gonna be like Dem tatsuya 😉

GonZ555 · 14th May 2017 at 3:31 AM

Meatbun Delivery~
Thank you for the chapter ( ?w?)

Since i’m in a place with barely any internet, i don’t have time to place my meatbun trail.. but thanks for the series~

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 3:36 AM

Thanks for the meat bun ? and thanks for dropping by and read this series ? hope you come by often XD

philippespalla · 14th May 2017 at 4:18 AM

thanks for the chapter XD

Spaceship With A View · 14th May 2017 at 4:25 AM

He is very lucky to have the gun. What if he only ever got ammo?
He really needs multiple guns. One day he might try to use a heal bullet in battle only to shoot himself with something else.

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:12 AM

Oh that would be stupid of ….. Wait he might actually do that considering how….slow he is ?

PrPl Phl · 14th May 2017 at 4:35 AM

Thank you for the chapter. He might get a shotgun or a rocket launcher from his next rogue monster drop, something with power I hope anyways.

Mikan · 14th May 2017 at 4:37 AM

if all that they use they get it from dungeons it makes you think… what did they do when they didn’t knew about dungeons, and when they didn’t knew all the dungeons, and when they didn’t have the strength to go beyond the 1st floor…

    Diggydawg · 14th May 2017 at 12:02 PM

Hahaha!!! silly, it’s because it all started with dungeons, and people are just unique dungeon drops… as for why they don’t turn back into rogue monsters, the author will just handwave that all away! 😛

      Spaceship With A View · 15th May 2017 at 6:27 AM

They stay the way they are because they are sentient. What I want to know is why the sky, sea, and land stay as they are without people. I dont believe everything comes from dungeons.

Erwin · 14th May 2017 at 4:45 AM

Thanks for the chapter

darklain0725 · 14th May 2017 at 4:48 AM

didn’t it say in an earlier chapter that a rouge monster dropped another gun in one of his experiments?

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:18 AM

Nope .. The only time he got a gun was during the fight with the rogue gorilla~

Engineer Joe · 14th May 2017 at 5:17 AM

Fatigue fracture is related to repeated loading of a material and though it can be caused by changes in temperature the thing happening here would more accurately be called ‘thermal shock’ and probably wouldn’t occur in a slime because it is…. liquid? What the is the phase state of a metal slime? It isn’t a traditional solid that’s for sure.

    DCLXVI · 14th May 2017 at 6:39 AM

    non newtonian fluid Maybe….

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:20 AM

Hmm…as a person who did not study any of those terms before…I was sort of new to it but I’ve heard of the rapid changes in temperature though I did not know the term for that…but I guess thermal shock is the proper term here….I’ll check back on the novel cause it says fatigue fracture for some reason when I translated it…thanks for the feedback ?

      Diggydawg · 14th May 2017 at 12:07 PM

I think the author just mashed up 2 different terminologies while omitting an important word… said terminologies being: “Thermal Fatigue” and “Thermal Fracturing”

Rasta · 14th May 2017 at 5:32 AM

Thank you for the chapter! Ryota… It’s a medieval world, where they never had to make tools to get resources, only weapons. Do you really think that they would need to make experiments that would lead to the discovery of such concepts like ice and fire weakening steel? And people are asking for dual pistols, but the only way that S rank strength will be used it by a minigun. The massive ones on jeeps.

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:22 AM

Oh if he has that…but I wonder where is he gonna get those bullets? Wait nvm….plot will find its way to give him the necessary items…thanks for reading ~

      Rasta · 14th May 2017 at 10:17 AM

If plot will give it, then plot will give him a tank. And then everyone will think it’s a horse. And thanks for translating this.

        Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 10:24 AM

oh wouldn’t that be awesome tho XD people be like “Cool, nice monster you’d tame.”

          Rasta · 14th May 2017 at 11:34 AM

          Then he’ll get Taming S!

kingofmangonia · 14th May 2017 at 5:48 AM

lol my guess is he will be getting a muscled daruma as his companion in the near future… so he’ll be getting guns :3 XD
*hohohoho face*

RePhantom · 14th May 2017 at 6:20 AM

nier has stolen your time but is stole my life xd

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:25 AM

Oh how much time it stole~~ and I keep getting the crash bug!!! I tried everything I could but it didn’t work !! I’m so sad…? Always crashing at important scenes

      RePhantom · 14th May 2017 at 8:06 PM

the first hour of gamplay was the hardest xd

        Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 11:39 PM

You mean hardest to get through because of the constant crashes, or because it’s genuinely hard? >W<

DCLXVI · 14th May 2017 at 6:40 AM

Thanks for the chapter!

Dark Jackel · 14th May 2017 at 7:06 AM

Thanks for the chapter! ?

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:26 AM

? thanks for reading as always ~~

natsukage · 14th May 2017 at 7:32 AM

Thanks for the chapter, Shiro-sama~ I’m guessing the top picture is from No Nier No Life…..:P

Just hoping this won’t turn into Gun-Ota…. The MC is already pretty much OP…he doesn’t need more than one gun? Monsters don’t come out fast enough to justify anything better than his current one…
Though maybe later in the dungeons it gets tougher enough to justify a minigun/automatic something?

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 8:28 AM

Maybe it will be something like arifureta where he needs a better gun for more output to kill some certain monster, say for example the rock monsters from arsenic dungeon? Or was that silicon? And yeah…I love that reference ? yes it is indeed no nier no Life XD

minedoge · 14th May 2017 at 9:39 AM

Hmm….another gun ?? Which dungeon it was it that the monkey came from??

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 9:43 AM

I actually forgotten XD gotta check back on the previous chapters again ><

Gehoji · 14th May 2017 at 9:42 AM

I’m not sure why he even uses the gun tbh. I bet if he just punched the mummy once it’d instantly die. He does have S rank strength after all.

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 9:44 AM

The novel did mention that even when he punched at the mummy….the mummy was only staggered and wasn’t defeated entirely.

    John Jay (@JohnJayJP) · 1st August 2018 at 12:54 PM

It’s strange how Eve the bunny girl can instantly disintegrate a skeleton, that was originally on the 2nd floor, with a head-chop but for some reason the MC seems to be MUCH weaker in comparison and can’t do the same.

icybloodkatana · 14th May 2017 at 10:19 AM

l0tuscrime · 14th May 2017 at 11:01 AM

nononono MC, buy some melee weapon, not hoping for some gun, for your convenience and ammo..

Adam · 14th May 2017 at 11:11 AM

I’m curious what type of undead are left for the other six levels? I’m fairly certain there will be vampires but what else will there be?

Possibilities I’m considering are things like: Dullahan, Lich, Frankensteins (although technically zombies would be special type), Ghosts, Dragon Zombies, or Reapers.

morisa00 · 14th May 2017 at 2:30 PM

Tank you ~ nanodesu ? I miss Emily

    Shiro · 14th May 2017 at 2:30 PM

    Me too….I want more emily~~

Puru.The.Great · 31st May 2017 at 2:32 PM

I’m looking forward to the time when he gets a machine gun or a Gatling gun.
The number of zombies and other monsters he will have to defeat for securing ammunitions is huge.
Thanks for the chapter.

gantono · 10th July 2017 at 6:26 PM

will he get some machine gun like arnie has or rambo style?
thanks for chap

lvuer · 12th September 2017 at 10:58 AM

Strange… I mean it’s S rank, something that human would never able to achieve, in other world, godly. Tank may be shock and bullet proof, but hit it with enough force, you will penetrate it. No matter how physical resistant a monster is, if you hit it with full force of S rank strength, it should at least deal some considerable damage.

    CaTastrophy427 · 22nd August 2018 at 3:43 PM

Yeah, but there are some things that that doesn’t apply to, or rather, the force needed to damage it would require a fking supernova, for example, neutron stars.

Besides, out of the realm of what a human can do doesn’t mean infinite or anything. Destroying a tank is out of the realm of human, yes, but it doesn’t mean that all of the things that can destroy a tank could destroy, say, the moon. A nuke could vaporize a tank, but against the moon… it might be able to make a small crater at best. Far from dealing “some considerable damage” you’d need several million Tsar Bombas to do much of anything to the moon, and that’s probably off by several orders of magnitude… maybe several quadrillion? IDK, I’ve not studied the Tsar Bomba or the moon much… and certainly not the interaction between the two.

SadNdil (@SadNdil) · 5th November 2017 at 8:29 PM

I don’t understand the logic of the more strength you have, the better damage output you will have from your gun, how is that even make sense ? I mean yea to some extend, since a sniper rifle could weigh more than 10kg+, and that’s it ! The more strength your have will be irrelevant, so I need some enlightment I guess to this logic hehe, thanks as always anyway for the chapter, Shiro-kun !

Sora · 28th December 2017 at 9:51 PM

This is more metaphorical. It means to comply with something that needs to be complied with. The most suitable translation in this case would be:

I guess it’s better to follow the rules.

DarkoNeko · 4th April 2018 at 12:40 AM

Forget getting a new gun, he fired several hundred bullets without doing any apparent maintenance on this one.

Inui · 16th April 2019 at 10:08 PM

You know S-HP don’t mean he have hi defense, is just that he will bleed longer, for physical defense it’s endurance and for magical defense wold be mind (mentality in this translation), also strength and intelligence are for attack physical and magical respectively and as for a gun I think he need aim with is improved with dexterity which increases hand skills (and craftsmanship)
Using 2 normal bullets to kill 2x zombies to get a Flame Bullet, also the spended time to find and the time to respawn them, not counting the money used on the box to bring the seeds outside the dungeon ….. I really don’t think is efficient way to hunt with S-HP, S-Str, C-Spd, if was me I wold go hunt the mummies with a maul
Saying this don’t mean i didn’t enjoy the novel, is just that I cant eat the way the author use the stats

    Inui · 17th April 2019 at 9:59 PM

Correcting myself, endurance strengthen the body and mentality for mind, meaning endurance also have resistance against magic damage and mentality against sleep, charm, mind control and anything else that concern the mind

    Rondo Inu · 7th May 2019 at 2:53 PM

It was specifically mentioned that the increased hp increased his damage reduction. So, it does mean he has high defense.

    Level 1/1
    HPS – health and defense
    MP F – magic pool
    Strength S
    Endurance F
    Intelligence F
    Mentality F
    Speed C
    Dexterity F
    Luck F

      Rondo Inu · 7th May 2019 at 3:01 PM

I can’t seem to edit or delete, so I’ll just reply.

      Level 1/1
HP S – health and defense
      MP F – magic pool
Strength S – physical damage dealt and carrying capacity
Endurance F – stamina, maybe poison resistance
Intelligence F – probably effects both intellect and spell damage
Mentality F – probably wisdom and mental fortitude, maybe psychic damage resistance
Speed C – speed, maybe mental processing speed too.
Dexterity F – probably accuracy, crafting skill, hand eye coordination, etc.
Luck F – Probably everything but drop rates.
